Huddle Leader Boost

Every once in a while I have days where I am overwhelmed with gratitude that I get to do the job that I do.  Obviously, I’m thankful that I have a job in the first place.  But as an introvert working in ministry, particularly in this role where I’m constantly reaching out to coaches and students, it can be overwhelming at times.  But when I get to see the impact – students making decisions to follow Jesus and those who are already believers being encouraged to take Jesus back to their school campus – those are the moments I know I will carry with me forever.
This past Saturday, January 13, we hosted over 70 students from all over Northern VA and DC at the RAC gym at George Mason University.  From 10am to 6pm, students played games, learned, and were encouraged not only in their personal walks with Christ but also in their role as a leader on their campuses.  We started the morning with Tanya Crevier, a talented performer and speaker who shared her basketball handling skills and testimony with us.  She encouraged our students to keep their standards high and live with purpose and even got several of them involved with her demonstrations!  Later, we played games and did break out sessions where students learned new ideas for games and outreach events they can use for their huddles.  We also discussed the importance of discipleship and spending time in the Word for their own personal growth so that they have overflow to pour out into their schools.

Tanya did an amazing job including our students in her performance!

This woman is crazy talented!

Finally, we ended the day with Waterfront Church’s Pastor, Zack Randles, commissioning our students to go back to their schools with passion and purpose to share the hope we have in Jesus Christ.  The best part of the day, by far, though was when 6 students came forward to receive Christ at the end of the day, including two Loudoun middle schoolers!  Although this event was for students who are currently leaders or want to become leaders, we never want to assume to know where they are spiritually.  Many of these students have grown up in church so they feel comfortable leading a devotion in front of peers, but when they really stop to examine their hearts, they realize they’ve never officially made that decision to follow Jesus.  We are so grateful and humbled that these six students recognized that in their own lives and wanted to surrender their hearts to Jesus once and for all.  I’m not sure about the rest of our staff, but I know I left GMU on Saturday exhausted but encouraged for the work God is going to do through these 70+ students in DC and Northern VA schools going forward!

Such an amazing crew!  Thankful for everyone who came out on Saturday!
