A Week of Wins

Over the past week I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing several ministry “wins”.  The first came in the form of an email early last week.  One of the middle school girls who had attended the Huddle Leader Boost earlier this month reached out for the name of one of the resources that we talked about at the event in our “Knowing Your Bible” session.  Any time a 13-year-old girl wants to know about resources to help her get into and understand God’s Word more, that is a huge win!  The next day I had a chance to follow up with her at River Bend Middle School’s huddle and give her an FCA Athlete’s devotional book to encourage her in her time with the Lord.  The devotion at the huddle that morning was led by 7th graders Jonathan and Brian, who also attended the Huddle Boost.  It has been so amazing to see these boys step out to lead with such enthusiasm, especially knowing that neither has been a believer for very long.  While both boys have grown up in church, Brian committed his life to Christ at FCA Leadership camp last June and Jonathan just made that decision for the first time at the Huddle Boost a couple of weeks ago!  Talk about embodying The Great Commission to share Jesus without excuses!  How often do we as adults hesitate to share our faith because we feel like we don’t know enough or have enough training?  These boys are excited to be following Jesus and they want their classmates to know it!

Thursday afternoon was another exciting day for our ministry as eight students gathered in Eagle Ridge Middle School’s auxiliary gym for the first huddle in a couple of months.  We have really struggled to get a solid huddle going at ERMS this year, partly because a new middle school opened down the road back in September, taking some of the former Eagle Ridge attendees to it.  So while eight may not sound like a lot, it was so encouraging for me to see those students there.  After some games, snacks, and fellowship, Mike Daknis, the middle school youth pastor from The Community Church in Ashburn, shared about labels.  He emphasized that our Creator and Purchaser is the only One who truly has a right to label us, such a wonderful reminder for middle school students.

Head, Shoulders, Knees, Cup!
Lastly, this past Sunday we hosted our second ever FCA Night of Worship.  This year’s event was almost completely student organized and led, making it even more impressive.  Over 150 students and many parents and pastors from all over Loudoun came together to worship Jesus at a PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL!  We also heard testimonies from several student leaders of how Jesus has transformed their lives. Praise the Lord!   I’m so thankful for God’s reminder of how He is working all over this county in little huddles and in big events.
