Dreaming, Planning, & Waiting

Anyone else feel like they’re in a season of anticipation right now?  As someone who has essentially operated on a school year schedule since the age of 5, the transition from July to August has always seemed to be a time of expectant waiting: for a new school year, for my birthday in mid-August, for football season to start back up J…so much to be excited about!  Add to that the fact that I am about to become an aunt for the second time and this sense of anticipation seems almost overwhelming at times.  Although I no longer work as a teacher, my schedule is still very much dependent on the school calendar. So with camp season officially wrapped up for our Loudoun FCA staff, we have all started the process of ministry planning for the upcoming school year.  Here are just a few of the things that we’ve been planning and are excited about for the 2017-2018 school year:
1) New huddles at Mercer Middle School and Brambleton Middle School
2) New female athletes’ Bible study at Potomac Falls High School
3) New student leaders at several huddles in the county
4) New character coaches working with several football and volleyball teams throughout Loudoun
5) TWO new staff members helping out at Loudoun schools!!
And while it’s good to be excited in waiting for things to come, I have to remind myself that there should be a heavenly focus to my waiting.  Lamentations 3:25 says, “The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.”  I have so many ideas and plans for this new school year but I need to remember to seek the Lord first in all of those plans and let Him direct my steps.  For far too long I lived with the mindset of pursuing my own dreams and asking God to bless my plans after I had already made them.  I think if we’re honest, many of us live this way a lot of the time without even realizing it.  God doesn’t want just be a consultant in our lives, though.  He wants us to submit our dreams and desires to Him so that He can fulfill them according to His plan.  Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
By the grace of God Loudoun FCA is growing!  We are excited to dream and plan events that point people in Loudoun to the glory of God. And as we take these dreams to God, we can’t wait to see how He continues to provide opportunities for the gospel to be shared in Loudoun County Public Schools and throughout the community!
